Dressing Change – Venous Wound

Learn how to dress a venous wound at home. In this video, Michelle, RN, our Clinical Lead, explains how to dress a venous wound.

Supplies needed:

• Normal Saline Solution 0.9% (or antibacterial soap)
• Calmoseptine Ointment (skin protectant)
• Aquacel Ag Advantage (primary dressing)
• 2″ x 2″ Gauze (secondary dressing)
• Kling (conforming gauze bandage roll)
• Paper Tape
• Scissors
• Tubigrip

Step-by-Step: How to Dress a Venous Wound

1. Step One
   Clean the wound with normal Saline solution or antibacterial soap.

2. Step Two
   Apply Calmoseptine or alternative skin protectant along the outer layer of the wound.

3. Step Three
   Place the primary dressing, Aquacel Ag Advantage, on the wound.

4. Step Four
   Place the secondary dressing, 2″ x 2″ gauze, on the wound.

5. Step Five
   Wrap the conforming gauze bandage roll, or Kling, around the wound.

6. Step 6
   Use scissors to cut the conforming gauze. Use paper tape to tape the edges of the conforming gauze.

7. Step 7
   (Optional) Measure the Tubigrip from the base of the toes to two finger lengths below the bend of the knee.

8. Step 8
   (Optional) Use scissors to cut the Tubigrip.

9. Step 9
   (Optional) Put the Tubigrip on starting from the base of the toes.
