Dr. Waien is the medical director of New England Wound Care. He is also a wound care consultant for several local nursing homes in Franklin, Hampshire and Worcester Counties in Massachusetts. He endeavors to personalize the treatment plan for each individual patient using the most advanced treatment options available.

Dr. Waien has been providing wound care in Franklin County since 2014. Before specializing in wound care, he worked as a hospitalist at Baystate Franklin Medical Center for over 10 years. He has served as an interim medical director at Baystate Franklin Medical Center and at Northfield Mount Hermon School.

Dr. Waien received a personal support award for graduate training: multi-disciplinary program in health services research and clinical epidemiology at Sunnybrook & Women’s College Health Sciences Center in Toronto, Ontario. He has authored many articles in peer reviewed journals and has also been a reviewer for the Journal of American Medical Association.

Rachel Bassett earned her Bachelor's degree in Nursing from Elms College in 2012 followed by her Masters degree from Walden University in 2017. She began her professional career at Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Franklin Medical Center before becoming a Nurse Practitioner.  Rachel gained valuable experience providing primary care to long term care patients as an NP, ultimately specializing in wound care after witnessing the impact of directly improving patients' quality of life through wound healing. She has since focused exclusively on wound care throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut for over five years. 

Rachel lives in Connecticut and in her spare time enjoys quality time with friends and family, traveling, boating, and pilates.

Anzhela Savonina is board certified in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C). She completed her undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Science from American International College. She has worked as a registered nurse in various setting and roles for 13 years before returning to American International College to pursue her master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner. For the last 5 years, she has been working in wound care providing a variety of advanced treatments including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, total contact casting, negative pressure wound therapy, and cellular and tissue-based products. She is passionate about further advancing patient heal rates through evidence-based wound care treatments to ensure the best outcomes.

In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking and cooking.

Alyssa is a PA who graduated with a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from Bay Path University in 2016. She also holds a B.A. from Smith College in Neuroscience and an A.S. in Nuclear medicine. She established a love for wound care while completing her surgical rotation in PA school and later trained with Healogics to specialize in wound care. She has also worked as a PA in Emergency Medicine and Women's health.

Alyssa grew up in Greenfield and after spending a few years in Oregon, moved back to the area in 2019, where she currently lives with her husband, Juan, and their new baby, Mabli. She enjoys being outdoors and exploring National Parks in her free time.

Michelle is our Wound Certified, Nurse Educator, who has many years of Healthcare Experience. She is a graduate of Mount Wachusett Community (MWCC) where she obtained her Associates Degree in Nursing, as a Registered Nurse in 2018. Michelle is also a graduate of Elms College, where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 2021. Before accomplishing this, Michelle had worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2005. Michelle’s clinical experience has been in long term care, but additionally has worked in several other roles in the office setting, homecare, and now in wound care. Michelle is passionate about making a positive impact on her patients and being a patient advocate. 

Michelle lives in Worcester County, with her significant other, two cats and a dog. She has three adult children and five grandchildren, whom she enjoys spending time with whenever she can. In Michelle’s off time she enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, playing street hockey, playing outside with her grandchildren and trail riding her ATV.

 Jen is one of our nurses who has many years of healthcare experience. She started as a CNA, then pursued nursing education at GCC where she obtained her LPN license in 2000. 

Her clinical experience is extensive and includes working as nursing manger at a Long term Skilled Nursing facility. She then transitioned to specializing in wound care. Jen is passionate about ensuring and developing patient relationships. She firmly believes that this lends itself to a positive impact on the patient’s overall outcome. 

Jen lives in Franklin county with her family and pets. She enjoys outdoor activities such as gardening and kayaking with her family during her off time.

Paige is one of our Registered Nurses, who has years of experience as a CNA, LPN and RN, with background in Skilled Nursing Homes, Home Care, and has now decided to specialize in Wound Care. 

Paige moved from Michigan to Massachusetts in 2011 and now lives in Hampden County, with her significant other. They have two children, two dogs and one cat.

Not only is she passionate about wound care bit about providing support to patients and their families in the continuum of care. 

Outside of work you are most likely to find her with her family enjoying the outdoors and the little ones running around. 

Shelly has over 30 years of providing administrative, financial, and billing support at a number of medical practices. She has been at New England Wound Care since it’s inception. Shelly lives in Montague with her husband and enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and camping in Vermont.

Carolynn has been with New England Wound Care since May 2021. She has a number of responsibilities including verifying insurances and submitting claims. She also provides support to other members in the office. When she is not at the office she enjoys spending time with her significant other, her dog and family enjoying the outdoors.

Ellie has worked at New England Wound Care since 2021 as a medical scribe.  She is a full time pre-med student.  Ellie lives in Western MA and enjoys traveling.

Amy brings several years of medical office experience to New England Wound care and is always a friendly face when you walk into our practice. She lives in Western Ma with her husband and children. She enjoys traveling, gardening and spending time with her family.

Michael has been working at New England wound care since 2019. He is a Medical Assistant who also works as an Emergency Medical Technician. He has over 6 years of experience in Wound Care including 3 years as a Hyperbaric Oxygen Technician. He lives in Vernon, Vermont with his wife and 2 of youngest children.  Mike enjoys playing and watching all kinds sports and spending time with his family.
